How Community Voices and Knowledge can Inform the U.S. National Ocean Biodiversity Strategy

In June 2024, the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy released the U.S. National Ocean Biodiversity Strategy, creating the opportunity to transform how we measure and manage diverse ocean life and habitats. In a virtual panel held on August 7th, lead authors of the Strategy and the Lenfest-supported project, Marine Biodiversity Dialogues, brought together knowledge holders from three regions – the Chesapeake Bay, Gulf of Mexico, and Puget Sound – to discuss the essential ingredients and on-the-ground partnerships necessary to make the implementation of the Strategy effective for communities.

The panel was introduced by Dr. Emmett Duffy from the Smithsonian Institution and Gabrielle Canonico from the U.S. Marine Biodiversity Observation Network, NOAA, and moderated by Kelsi Furman from the Smithsonian Institution.
